ATK has unveiled its new product line of small satellite spacecraft platforms for use in missions for civil, national security and commercial applications.

Commenting on the expansion, ATK Space Systems division’s vice president and general manager Tom Wilson said the company’s expanded line of space platforms will allow it to capitalise on the expected up-swing in its targeted market segments.

Compatible with most launch vehicles and available in four basic configurations, the ATK A series product line comprises A100, A200, A500, and A700, as well as elevated platforms of A150, A250, and A550.

According to the company, the A series products can be used for various requirements according to the mission class, design life, propulsion, pointing accuracy, payload mass and launch compatibility.

The ATK A100 is a small bus within the microsats and nanosats product range, which can be used for missions with payloads less than 15kg.

The ATK A200 series’ responsive space modular bus (RSMB) offers large power, precision pointing and enhanced data throughput for complicated military and scientific payloads.

Currently, the A200 platform being used for two missions that on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (E0-1) satellite, and the US Department of Defence’s (DoD) Operationally Responsive Space-1 (ORS-1) satellite in orbit for more than a year, as well as the military’s TacSat-3 mission.

Offering a high-end modular bus (HEMB), the ATK A500 series platform enables increased payload complexity and size, as well as extended life.

The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has selected HEMB platform to perform on-orbit satellite servicing and repurposing as part of its Phoenix mission.

With the longest design life and biggest capacity, the ATK A700 series bus is the base of the Vivisat mission extension vehicle (MEV), which was unveiled in 2011.
