The Ariane 5 mission to place Arabsat-5A and the COMS satellite payloads into space has been delayed due to a subsystem anomaly.

The rocket mission was postponed after a launcher subsystem anomaly occurred during final countdown from the European spaceport.

Arabsat-5A will be used by the Arabsat telecommunications operator for telecommunications and TV broadcasting services over the Middle East and Africa.

COMS is a Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) satellite that will perform meteorological observations, ocean surveillance and experimental broadband multimedia communications services.

At present, the Ariane rocket and its two payloads are in a safe standby mode on the launch pad and a new launch date is yet to be announced.
