PT Garuda Indonesia is seeking a partner to finance planned purchases of Boeing aircraft.

The airline is in talks with the US Export-Import Bank for $1.5bn of financing for the purchases.

Garuda president director Emirsyah Satar told Reuters that it already had a contract with Boeing worth at least $1.5bn to $2bn to purchase ten 777-300ER and ten 737-800 aircraft.

“We’re also in talks with several lessors to combine financing for the plan,” he said.

The air carrier plans to open several new routes to Taipei and Shanghai this year.
