The SES World Skies SES-1 satellite has successfully entered commercial operation at the orbital location of 101°W.

The SES-1 Orbital Sciences-built satellite is based on its STARTM 2.4 bus platform that replaces AMC-2 and AMC-4 at the orbital location. It will provide coverage for 50 US states.

The satellite carries 24 active C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders and six channels in each band can be cross-strapped to the opposite band for new service capability.

The communications satellite was launched aboard a ILS Proton Breeze M rocket in April 2010.
