Arianspace’s first Soyuz launch vehicle is ready to integrate its third stage with the already completed parts of the space craft.
The first stage features four strap-on boosters, powered by RD-107A engines, around the vehicle’s block A core stage, aerofins and movable vernier thrusters providing three-dimensional axis flight control.
Soyuz’s central core second stage is equipped with one RD-108A engine that has four combustion chambers and nozzles, along with vernier thrusters.
The third stage carries the vehicle’s avionics including a control system with digital computer and inertial measurement unit to give the Soyuz improved navigation accuracy and control capability.
Soyuz launchers, to be launched from its spaceport in French Guiana, will be completed with the Fregat upper stage, designed as an autonomous and flexible orbital vehicle.
The third stage will provide access to a range of orbits including medium-Earth orbit, sun-synchronous orbit, geostationary transfer orbit and Earth escape trajectories.
