SSTL will launch the NigeriaSat-2 satellite for the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) atop a Dnepr launch vehicle on 29 October 2010.

NigeriaSat-2 is an advanced small satellite, based on SSTL-300i platform, which will be used for resource management and mapping of the Nigerian territory.

The satellite will provide high-resolution maps of Nigeria every four months, monitoring Nigerian crops and supporting the development of the Nigerian national geographical information system (GIS).

Fitted with two optical payloads, the satellite provides highly capable and flexible multimode operation for spot imaging, strip imaging, area mode imaging and stereo mode imaging.

The NigeriaSat-2 programme also includes ground segment equipment and advanced training, and follows on from the successful NigeriaSat-1 programme to provide data continuity for end users.
