Boeing will deliver two next-generation 737-800 aircraft to RwandAir under a new contract.

The Rwandan airline is renewing and expanding its fleet to broaden its network, and currently operates a fleet of regional jets.

RwandAir chairman John Mirenge said Boeing’s next-generation 737-800s would enable the airline to eventually expand to regional hubs across Africa and the Middle East.

“They will become the mainstay of our fleet,” he said.

With the capacity to fly up to 189 passengers in a single-class configuration, the 737-800s can travel 3,060nm at Mach 0.78.
