Aerojet and Florida Turbine Technologies (FTT) are to join forces to compete for research, development and production of Nasa’s new hydrocarbon engine and advanced upper stage engine.

The two firms will innovate and expand on efforts in developing components for the US Air Force hydrocarbon boost technology demonstrator (HBTD) programme.

The innovation will extend into a comprehensive engine development programme to provide transformational propulsion capability for Nasa, commercial launch vehicles and US defence.

Aerojet CEO Scott Seymour said that Nasa’s plans for innovative propulsion research and development on a new hydrocarbon engine were critical to the US’s space launch leadership.
