Intelsat has successfully placed the IS-25 satellite into orbital service to provide coverage over Africa.
IS-25 is the ProtoStar 1 satellite that was renamed following Intelsat’s acquisition of it in late 2009.
Providing C-band and Ku-band coverage over a portion Africa, the satellite has been repositioned to 328.5°E.
IS-25 also offers capacity for high-growth applications including cellular backhaul for expansion services to remote locations, IP Trunking for robust internet connectivity and video services for programming.
The company also plans to launch the Intelsat New Dawn satellite this year to join IS-25 that will bring the number of satellites in its fleet serving Africa to 25.
