Intelsat’s Galaxy 15 (G-15) satellite, which provides transmission capacity for cable programmers in North America, has experienced an anomaly.
Although service to Intelsat’s customers has not been disrupted, the firm plans to transfer its media traffic to Galaxy 12 (G-12) satellite, a designated in-orbit spare for the North American region.
G-12 is currently relocating to the 133°WL, G-15’s original orbital position.
Built by Orbital Sciences and launched in 2005, the satellite based on the Star platform is currently being examined by the two firms.
The satellite equipped with 24 C-band transponders is designed to be in service until 2022.
