The commercialisation of alternative jet fuels is being encouraged by the Air Transport Association (ATA) of America and the US Department of Defence to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The alliance aims to establish a forum focused on stimulating growth in the alternative aviation fuels market.
Through the agreement, major US airlines and the defence department plan to advance development and use of commercially viable and environmentally friendly alternative aviation fuels.
Navy Rear Adm. Defence Energy Support Centre commander Kurt L Kunkel said that with the alliance, they were better positioned to explore cooperative market engagement for fuel, improve the financial prospects for alternative fuels infrastructure, accelerate fuel certification efforts and refine methodology for determining environmental impacts.
The alliance will meet with alternative fuel suppliers in the near future to discuss new projects across the nation to deploy alternative aviation fuels.
