United Airlines will acquire 25 A350-900 XWB aircraft from Airbus under a new contract.

The A350-900 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines is mid-size widebody airliner that will be capable of flying 314 passengers 8,100nm at Mach 0.85.

Compared with similar aircraft, the A350 features the latest aerodynamics, design and advanced technologies to provide a 25% step-change in fuel.

The airframe will have 53% composite materials, which will reduce the weight and maximise fuel economy.

Deliveries of the aircraft will begin in 2016 and run to 2019.
