Boeing has received a $1.6bn order for 20 737 aircraft from Turkish Airlines, which requires ten 737-800 and ten 737-900ER planes.

The 737-900ER is a higher capacity, longer-range derivative of the 737-900 plane, which can carry up to 215 passengers up to distance of 32,000nm and will be the newest plane of the 737 family to join the airline fleet.

The 737-800s can fly 189 passengers in a two-class configuration a distance of 3,060nm.

Boeing’s vice-president of sale Marlin Dailey said teh cmopany was very proud to be supplying the aircraft and believed the 737-900ER would fit seamlessly into the airline’s operations.

The airliners will feature Boeing’s new sky interior, based on the cabin design of the 787 Dreamliner.

The Istanbul-based carrier currently operates a fleet of 66 Boeing airplanes including 58 next-generation 737s.
