An improved departure procedure for Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 aircraft has been introduced that will reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The procedure involves early acceleration at 1,500ft with green dot up to 4,000ft, which will result in reducing CO2 emissions and effecting fuel savings of 300kg on each flight to Singapore from Heathrow Airport.

Green dot is approximately the best lift-to-drag ratio speed and provides the lowest fuel consumption up to 4,000ft.

The modification also includes switching from take-off go-around (TOGA), which uses full thrust to FLEX procedures, which adapts thrust to aircraft take-off weight to decrease Nox emissions.

The switch also reduces engine stress and increases its under-wing performance.

The new procedure has been developed by Singapore Airlines, Heathrow Airport, Airbus and NATS.
