Western Sydney Airport has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with airlines Virgin Australia and Qantas Group.
The agreement will see the airlines participate in the design and plan for Sydney’s new international airport. It aims to create a better experience for future passengers and support operational requirements.

The airlines will participate in early discussions around future Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, and Tigerair services at Sydney’s second airport.
Under the MoU, the airport and two airlines will partner and provide inputs related to passenger terminal and boarding, technology and innovation opportunities.
Qantas Group chief executive officer Alan Joyce said: “Given the size and significance of New South Wales to the national economy, a second airport is exactly what we need to keep growing. The potential is huge.
“It’s not often you get to help design an airport from scratch, so we’re really pleased to be part of it. This a chance to create a great experience for passengers and a high level of efficiency for airlines, which helps us keep fares lower.”

By GlobalDataThe collaboration will also focus on technology and novel opportunities mainly associated with security and customer service, baggage handling, rideshare facilities, train stations and parking at the airport.
In addition, the three parties will provide insights on air freight and cargo facilities, as well as sustainability including resource recycling and reuse.
Western Sydney Airport chief executive officer Graham Millett said: “The insights we’ll gain from working with the airlines help us build an airport that people will love using.
“Australian airlines have long been advocates of Western Sydney gaining its own airport. We look forward to working with them as we deliver jobs and opportunities to the region.”
The new Western Sydney International Airport is being built in Badgerys Creek, Australia, and is expected to open in 2026.
