Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSIA) in Australia has revealed the final design of its passenger terminal.
In addition, the airport has awarded the contract for the terminal construction to Multiplex after a procurement process.

As part of the contract, the construction company will take the initial concepts through to a final design.
Throughout the development of design, aboriginal communities were consulted. The initial concepts were unveiled two years ago, with the final design retaining the key design principles.
The construction of the terminal will commence at the end of 2021. This alone is anticipated to generate over 1400 direct job opportunities.
The new terminal will offer easy navigation that will provide a ‘stress-free airport experience’ to passengers.

By GlobalDataWSIA CEO Simon Hickey said: “Flying from Western Sydney International will be fast, easy and seamless. For airlines, our terminal will be all about operational efficiency and reliability, providing an environment where passengers arrive at the aircraft feeling relaxed and ready to fly.”
The terminal will feature sustainable solutions that will involve passive design principles based on natural light and airflows.
These will ensure better energy efficiency, along with the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Minister Paul Fletcher said: “The new terminal will not only be a state-of-the-art piece of infrastructure but a driver of jobs and economic growth for the region and form an integral element of the surrounding aerotropolis and the broader Western Parkland city.
“In its own right, Western Sydney would be Australia’s fourth-largest city and third-largest economy, which is why the Morrison Government has committed $10.82bn (A$14bn) to the airport and vital metro rail and road links that will transform the region.”
The airport, which will have the capacity to manage nearly ten million passengers annually, is expected to commence operations in 2026.
In March, Vanderlande Industries Australia secured the contract to supply a new baggage handling system to WSIA.
