Western Sydney Airport CEO Graham Millett said: “Even in the context of an infrastructure boom, we’ve had a high level of interest from the market in each of the tenders we’ve released so far.

“The terminal will be the heart of Western Sydney International. It is the flagship of the airport and it will be a flagship project for the company that wins the contract. We are looking to commence engagement with the construction industry now while we are still in the early design phase of the terminal.”

The contract encompasses the first construction stage of the airport’s integrated domestic and international passenger terminals.

It also involves the construction of security systems, an IT network, a baggage handling system and aerobridge.

To avoid service disruption as demand rises, the terminal will be designed for modular expansion. It is expected to serve nearly ten million travellers each year.

The registration of interest will be open until 23 September 2019 while the contract is expected to be awarded in 2021.

In January, Western Sydney Airport launched a two-stage competitive process to shortlist the architect who will design the new terminal building.

The blueprint will be an optimised airport site layout (ASL) and aims to provide safe aeroplane manoeuvring, improved efficiency and streamlined operations.

Construction work started last September. By June, around one million cubic metres of earth had been removed.
