Volotea started operations at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport in April 2018. Since its start up, Volotea has opened four lines operating to major European regional cities, including Palermo and Cagliari in Italy and Palma de Mallorca and Alicante in Spain.

Volotea then increased its flight schedule and opened four additional routes to Valencia in Spain, Prague in the Czech Republic and Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia.

In the first eight months of opening, the airline carried around 81,000 passengers to Lyon, including 54,000 in the summer.

The airline will open a ninth line to Venice, Italy from 18 October this year.

Volotea’s collaboration with VINCI Airports began seven years ago when Volotea opened its first French base at VINCI subsidiary AGO’s Nantes Atlantique Airport.

Earlier this month, VINCI placed its final bids to acquire a 50.1% stake in Australia’s Hobart International Airport (HIA) in Tasmania. The stake is being sold by Australian investment bank Macquarie Group.

The move comes after VINCI was shortlisted to participate in the auction’s second and final stages last month. Earlier in July, the French firm submitted an indicative bid for HIA.
