As part of the arrangement, Viasat’s Global Aero Terminal 5510 satcom solution will be installed on both the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 airframes.

The solution will use the ViaSat-1, ViaSat-2 and the existing European Ka-band satellite platforms to provide its services.

It will also be compatible with Viasat’s future-generation satellite constellation, ViaSat-3, and will eliminate any additional hardware upgrades for the ViaSat-3 customers.

“Our satellites are proven to deliver superior internet connections during all phases of flight, ensuring business jet owners can be as productive in the air as they are in their offices.”

The ViaSat-3 constellation will have three satellites, each of which is expected to deliver 1tb per second of capacity, which is more than the total network capacity of the current 400 commercial communications satellites in operation.

Viasat Network Services vice-president Jerry Goodwin said: “We’re very excited about our partnership with Embraer. They have a vision that strongly aligns with ours: to enable Embraer aircraft to have an excellent connectivity experience, exceeding what is available in the market today for any class of business jet.

“Our capacity-rich satellites are proven to deliver superior internet connections during all phases of flight, ensuring business jet owners can be as productive in the air, as they are in their offices and homes.”

Initially, Viasat’s Global Aero Terminal 5510 satcom solution is expected to provide 16Mbps of data speed.
