Thales has secured a new contract from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to upgrade the latter’s nationwide air traffic management (ATM) system.
Through this contract, CAAB intends to enhance the country’s airspace security.

As part of the project, the en-route, approach and tower system at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shajalal International Airport (HSIA) will be modernised.
Equipment will also be deployed at other regional airports across the country.
The company will supply complete new automated systems comprising ATC automation, primary and secondary radars (STAR NG and RSM), ADS-B, Wide Aera Multilateration, Airport Multilateration, Datalink and countrywide VSAT communications and terrestrial network as a backup to VSAT.
This development is expected to improve Bangladesh’s air surveillance through the installation of technologies compliant with ICAO standards.

By GlobalDataAdditionally, a 45m-high control tower and air traffic management centre will be constructed at HSIA.
This facility will feature a security system that will offer CCTV coverage and access control through an integrated platform.
To back the future growth of air traffic in Bangladesh, the CAAB’s controllers will work with the newest automation technologies.
This project is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
