St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) in the US has expanded its security checkpoints in Terminal 2 to accommodate increased passenger screenings.
Last year, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported a 5.5% rise in passenger screenings at the airport’s Terminal 2, adding to the 6.3% growth from 2015 to 2016.

Built in an alliance with the TSA, the new security lane brings the number of checkpoints in the terminal to seven and will only be used during peak hours.
It has been built at the terminal’s west-end checkpoint, which now includes three lanes for the TSA’s expedited screening, called PreCheck.
TSA Missouri federal security director Jim Spriggs said: “This additional lane will increase our capacity for expedited screening by 33% during peak times in Terminal 2.
“It will also give us greater flexibility to expand standard screening operations at two checkpoints so that we can better support our summer travel season.”

At present, Southwest Airlines operates 113 daily departures and has already added two new services, with plans to include another service from August.
In addition, a new international service of four weekly flights will be started by WOW air from May, along with one more weekly flight from June to September.
STL director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said: “We anticipate even more growth in Terminal 2 this summer with the addition of the non-stop service to Iceland, the new California destinations on Southwest, as well as Southwest’s new service to Hartford in late summer.
“The security expansion gives the TSA additional flexibility to increase passenger screenings and reduce security wait times.”
