Smiths Detection has received a contract to deliver 47 CTX 9800 DSi explosive detection systems to the US Transport Security Administration (TSA).
The systems will be deployed to increase security at airports across the US.

The latest contract follows Smiths Detection’s successful competitive bid to provide 24 systems and forms part of the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract awarded in 2018 for hold baggage screening equipment at US airports.
Smiths Detection president Shan Hood said: “We are delighted to announce this new order to supply our CTX 9800 DSi systems, which highlights the vital role Smiths Detection computed tomography (CT) technology plays in aviation security.
“This proven, yet innovative, technology delivers ever-increasing value to users, which allows us to continually offer the most reliable, advanced and future-proof solutions needed to protect our skies.”
The company noted that its detection system identifies explosives using a single X-ray source dual-energy design, which offers 3D images, along with 2D and 3D organic/inorganic material discrimination for hold baggage.

By GlobalDataSmiths Detection added that its CTX 9800 system will support the abilities of airport operators to address new security and operational challenges through its advanced screening capabilities and efficiencies in business management solutions.
CTX 9800 has already been approved by the US Transportation Security Administration, Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), as it meets the European Union (EU) Standard 3.0 and 3.1 requirements.
Last September, South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corporation awarded a contract to Smiths Detection to install its explosives detection system for hold baggage screening at Incheon International Airport’s Terminal 2.
