Global IT provider SITA has won a contract to modernise its Airport Management Solution (AMS) at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.

Upgrades to AMS, which has been designed to help airports manage their operations from the terminal to the airfield, will enable the Turkish airport to access data in real-time to better forecast, plan and manage the airport’s operations.

According to the technology vendor, the modernisation of AMS will enable the airport management to have an improved overview of operations, and take proactive and coordinated decisions across the airport.

The contact means SITA will automate the airport’s resource management system, which will facilitate the automated identification and deployment of the right equipment and people at the right place at the right time.

Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport CEO Ersel Göral said: “As part of our expansion program, the smart use of technology will maximise our new infrastructure. It will provide our passengers a world-class experience and support our airline customers in managing their operations more efficiently.

“Our focus at SITA is to deliver technology solutions that help airport operators better manage their infrastructure.”

“SITA’s Airport Management Solution is key to delivering our ambitions, whether it is timely aircraft departures, managing the flow of passengers through our terminals or making our passengers’ journey a little easier.”

The contract also includes the modernisation of the Flight Information Display System that is used on 436 screens across the terminals, to keep travellers well informed during every step of their journey.

Plans also include the refurbishment of more than 200 common-use terminal equipment (CUTE) workstations, where airlines can share the same check-in and boarding infrastructure.

SITA noted that the technology augmentation will support the airport’s future expansion and help it to manage 41 million passengers per annum with the opening of a second runway later this year.

SITA Middle East, India, and Africa president Hani El-Assaad said: “Our focus at SITA is to deliver technology solutions that help airport operators better manage their infrastructure in a way that is both optimal and makes the journey smoother for passengers.

“It is with immense pride that we continue to deliver this service at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, one of the world’s busiest and most iconic airport hubs.”
