Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai Airports to use data analytics to improve airport optimisation and the passenger experience.
The partners plan to leverage data management and digitalisation in order to enhance cost and energy efficiency at Dubai International and Dubai World Central airports.
In addition to analytics capabilities, the companies will employ Siemens’ cloud-based IoT MindSphere technology and infrastructure to enable secure real-time sharing of data across various stakeholders at the airports.
Dubai Airports technology and infrastructure executive vice-president Michael Ibbitson said: “Our ongoing focus is to use data, analytics and technology to boost service, throughput and efficiency across the board simultaneously.
“Siemens has extensive expertise in this area and a long and successful track record working with Dubai Airports. We are excited about unleashing the potential of closer collaboration for the benefit of our customers and our bottom line.”
The collaboration will explore opportunities for pilot studies, research and development, intelligent passenger flow management, decreased maintenance costs, power supply efficiencies and predictive asset management.
Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics CEO Michael Reichle said: “By employing advanced data analytics and machine learning, a great deal of added value can be derived from data.
“The use of the latest data technology will optimise the flow at each touchpoint and enhance productivity and efficiencies for the benefit of Dubai Airports and its customers.”
The company additionally intends to establish one MindSphere Application Center in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
While the Dubai facility will focus on airports, logistics and cargo, the centre in Abu Dhabi will serve process industries to allow improved operational efficiency and decreased costs across the value chain.
