Russia’s Sheremetyevo International Airport served 15.6 million passengers during the nine-month period from January through September of 2020.

The airport has seen 145,368 takeoffs and landings during this period.

According to the airport, the largest contributors to the passenger traffic were Nordwind Airlines, Rossiya, Aeroflot, Ikar, Royal Flight and Air France.

The airport reported 476% growth in passenger traffic in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, totalling 5.84 million passengers.

The growth in passenger numbers has been attributed to the high demand for flights to popular domestic resort destinations in the country, in addition to the partial resumption of regular international flights.

Sheremetyevo International Airport stated that the count of passengers served on domestic airlines touched 4.97 million, which is a surge of 424% over Q2.

This growth has been primarily attributed to an increase in demand for flights to Sochi, Simferopol and Anapa.

During the third quarter, passenger traffic on international airlines touched 869,930, a huge jump of 1,225% compared to the second quarter.

The greatest demand for flights was witnessed to destinations such as Antalya, Istanbul and London.

In September, the airport served 2.16 million passengers, with 15,878 takeoff and landing operations.
