As per the tender document, the chosen firm will be responsible for designing, engineering, procurement and construction works of the runway.

It will also be responsible for building taxiways, turning pads, perimeter, apron, other roads, earthwork, fire station, a drainage system and other structures.

In addition, this EPC contract also involves installation, testing and commissioning of an airfield ground lighting system and visual aids for navigation.

The project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months from the date of the letter of award (LoA) is given.

This deal also needs the contractor to offer operation and maintenance services for two years after the project gets commissioned.

The central government gave clearance last October for the development of Hirasar Airport next to National Highway (NH-8B), linking Ahmedabad and Rajkot. It is nearly 36km from the current Rajkot Airport.

The airport will feature a single runway to operate aircraft under ‘C’ category.
