Prater has won a contract to deliver the full envelope package for redevelopment work at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2.

Specialist envelope contractor Prater will be responsible for the design, supply, and installation of a standing seam roof, blast enhanced and acoustic facades, and composite cladding.

Prater infrastructure lead Chris Leach said: “The Prater team has been working closely with Laing O’Rourke and the rest of the supply chain since the initial works began, and we’ve repeated our ethos of early collaboration for the Terminal 2 element of the project.

“This ethos has allowed us to pre-plan and schedule works strategically, ensuring safety and quality on-site and avoiding costly project delays.

“It’s this detailed experience in the aviation sector and our successful work on the Pier One and Link Bridge that enables us to provide quality and consistency to our clients, project after project.”

The recent contract forms part of the £1bn expansion of Manchester Airport and follows the successful completion of work on Pier One and the link bridge at Manchester Airport, which started in November 2017.

Scheduled to be completed by 2023, the expansion will improve check-in speed and security checks at the airport.

It will also enable the airport to accommodate 45 million passengers over a ten to 15 year programme period, compared to the existing capacity of 27 million per annum.

Prater was recently awarded a contract by London City Airport to deliver the complete envelope package for the East and West Terminal extension, East and West Energy centres and new Eastern Pier, along with the refurbishment of the existing terminal building.
