The extended terminal wing is being developed under an ongoing $2bn series of makeover projects collectively titled PDX NEXT, which was announced in 2019.

Upon completion of the new terminal in 2025, the passengers can access a park-like environment with a light penetrating through the glass exterior walls, along with overhead skylights.

Alaska Airlines real estate and airport development vice-president Shane Jones said: “PDX is a crucial part of Alaska’s future, especially as one of our key West Coast hubs.

“Our partnership and joint investment with the Port of Portland highlights our commitment to provide our guests with an excellent travel experience by making improvements that will make their journeys more enjoyable.”

In 2017, Skanska won a contract to execute the expansion and renovation of Portland International Airport.
