With the accreditation, the five airports have joined the group of airports in the US and worldwide to have attained the carbon management certification standard from the ACI.

However, the certification attained by the Port Authority is not based on any specific projects but is a recognition of the agency’s overall commitment to sustainable environmental programmes.

“The Port Authority is pleased to join an elite group of airports deploying best-in-class climate strategies worldwide.”

Port Authority Office of Environmental and Energy Programmes director Christine Weydig said: “This recognises our efforts to manage and reduce carbon emissions at our airports, and demonstrates proactive efforts to achieve sustainable growth and address the impact of aviation on climate change.
