The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Red River College have partnered to strengthen Canada’s aerospace industry.

Under this partnership, the two organisations have announced the opening of a training and applied research centre.

Located at Red River College’s largest Winnipeg campus, the new centre will serve as a training hub for small and medium-sized businesses to allow the aerospace workforce in the country to hone their skills.

The new training centre is funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada.

NRC researchers have developed an advanced forming technology that can be used to enhance precision in the production of main aerospace components.

The technology has been licensed to Red River College, which will use it for training and demonstration.

Furthermore, the partners will work on finding the advanced forming technology’s best application in the aerospace industries in Canada, as well as worldwide.

The team also has plans to transfer the technology to the private sector.

NRC acting president Roger Scott-Douglas said: “The National Research Council of Canada is proud to join forces with Red River College to strengthen Canada’s aerospace industry.

“The composite forming technology pioneered by a multidisciplinary team of NRC researchers will help Red River College anticipate the needs of the aerospace industry of the future.

“Complex challenges demand collaborative solutions and, by working together, the NRC and Red River College are helping realise part of the NRC’s mission: they’re applying leading-edge technologies to find creative solutions to the challenges of the future.”
