United Technologies has reported a profit of $1.3bn during the third quarter of 2011, up by 11% over the corresponding period in 2010, boosted by orders from its aerospace and building systems businesses.
The US-based company, which makes jet engines, elevators and other aerospace and building systems components, has reported a 9% increase in revenue to $14.8bn from the $13.62bn it reported during the corresponding period last year.
The company’s new equipment orders rose 24% at aerospace parts maker Hamilton Sundstrand during the third quarter while orders rose 19% at elevator manufacturer Otis and 11% for heating and cooling equipment orders at Carrier.
Orders at Pratt & Whitney’s large engine business grew 3%, after growing 35% in the third quarter last year, the company said.
