TUI Group has finalised an order with Boeing for one 787-9 Dreamliner with the option for another 787 aircraft.

The European leisure group has also agreed to substitute two unfilled orders for 787-8s with 787-9s.

With the latest order, the 787-9s will join the company’s fleet within the next three years.

TUI Group aviation managing director Henrik Homann said: "Adding the 787-9 to our order book enables TUI Group’s airlines to continue to develop its long-haul network, giving access to new and exciting leisure destinations for our customers.

TUI Group owns TUIfly, Thomson, TUIfly Nordic, Jetairfly, Corsair and ArkeFly airlines, which operate a fleet of 144 medium and long-haul aircraft. The group also has on order 60 737 MAXs alongside 787s.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes European sales vice-president Todd Nelp said: "This new and revised order is testament to the value that the Dreamliner family offers in meeting TUI Group’s operational and environmental goals, while at the same time providing an unrivalled on-board experience for its passengers."

With fuselage stretched by 6m over the 787-8, the 787-9 can accommodate up to 40 more passengers and can fly an additional 830km, while offering 20% in fuel efficiency and fewer emissions.
