Sener noted that these airports have been able to optimise and neutralise their carbon emissions, and become major environmentally friendly airports in Europe.

Last year, TAV Airports minimised its carbon emissions, which were previously equivalent to the annual consumption of 947 houses.

The company, which has been publishing sustainability reports since 2010, has also been able to boost its carbon disclosure project (cdp) climate change programme carbon disclosure score from 64 to 89.

Apart from Turkey, TAV Airports currently operates airports in Georgia, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Croatia.

Last year, the company provided services for 780,000 flights and more than 102 million passengers.
