Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) is planning to begin commercial operation of its first Bombardier C Series aircraft, CS100, on 15 July.

Following the launch of service, Swiss will be the first airline in the world to operate the new Bombardier C Series aircraft, which is a newly developed short and medium haul twinjet.

Claimed to reduce noise by 50% and consume up to 25% less fuel, the arrival of the C Series is also expected to create 150 new jobs at Swiss.

The CS100 is expected to cut Swiss’s annual carbon dioxide emissions by around 90,000t.

Planned to be delivered by the end of June, the CS100 will take off from Zurich, Switzerland, on its first commercial flight to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.

The service will be followed by Poland and Belgium at the end of August, and Germany, Italy and Romania in September.

Swiss is also planning to add more destinations, which are currently served with the Avro RJ100, to C Series operation following the arrival of CS100.

The Zurich-London City route is expected to receive C Series service from the first quarter of next year.

With a fleet of 94 aircraft, Swiss currently serves 102 destinations in 46 countries. In January, Swiss received its first of nine new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
