According to AVTECH, the Aventus NowCast system supplies accurate wind information and / or 4D trajectories for flights.

The Met Office will allow AVTECH to access its high-resolution Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model data, as well as customised flight trajectories based on latitude, longitude, elevations and time.

"We expect increased demand for our world-leading numerical weather prediction model data through technology solutions such as this."

The data will be incorporated in the AVTECH Aventus NowCast system, which allows onboard flight management systems (FMS) to accurately calculate an optimised flight profile for aircraft.

Airlines will be able to use global model weather data to create accurate 4D flight trajectories, which will help minimise fuel use and reduce CO2 emissions.

The partnership is also expected to deliver operational, financial and environmental benefits through increased efficiency of individual flights and networks.

Met Office aviation business development manager Jon Croome said: "To give AVTECH fast access to the latest global model data along a 4D flight trajectory we worked with our technical team to build a scalable web service request solution.

"As the aviation industry seeks further efficiency gains, driven primarily by environmental and cost considerations, we expect increased demand for our world-leading numerical weather prediction model data through technology solutions such as this."

European airline easyJet is currently in the first phase of an agreement with AVTECH to implement the Aventus NowCast system across its network.

The agreement will run in Switzerland for a limited number of months.
