The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded a new multi-million-pound contract to German company Smiths Detection to deliver various aviation security solutions at all MOD airports worldwide.
Under the deal, Smiths Detection will deploy a wide range of speed and security solutions, all of which are backed by a ten-year support programme, for managing hand luggage, passengers and freight at the airports.

By GlobalDataUK MOD spokesman Iain Mcleod said: “This key contract will deliver checkpoint and hold baggage security for all UK MOD airports over the next decade.
“Installation is currently underway, maintaining and enabling class-leading aviation security to support our operations around the globe.”
The technologies to be implemented at the MOD airports include HI-SCAN 145180-2is dual-view X-ray equipment for inspecting air cargo; CEIA PMD2PLUS walk through metal detectors; IONSCAN 600 trace detectors; and the millimeter-wave eqo scanners for screening people.
Smiths Detection UK / Ireland market head Richard Thompson said: “We are proud to have been selected for this contract by the UK MOD.

“The screening systems included in this contract will provide world-class detection capabilities to protect against evolving threats.”
The security detection equipment to be integrated by Smiths Detection will offer additional capabilities for the MOD at its wide range of airports internationally.
Separately, the company has bagged another contract to deliver new hold baggage screening equipment at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands that is in line with the latest European Union (EU) regulations of EDS Standard 3.
