Smiths Detection has secured a new order to deploy 26 additional units of CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen checked baggage at several airports across the US.
The contract awarded by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), also includes a provision for the supply of 12 additional units.
As part of a five-year indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract signed in 2012, the current delivery will take the total number of CTX EDS ordered by TSA to more than 1,300, which includes approximately 200 units of CTX 9800.
Smiths Detection Global EDS sales senior director Sally Nordeen said: “Smiths Detection is honoured to continue our decades-long collaboration with the TSA to help protect travellers and facilitate air travel throughout the US.
“As airports continue to invest in scalable detection technologies to meet growing passenger traffic and security challenges, the combination of the CTX platform and our expanded service capabilities will ensure that Smiths Detection remains the trusted partner of choice for the world’s airports.”
The CTX 9800 system uses advanced computed tomography (CT) technology to provide high-resolution 3D images in medium and high-speed configurations.
