Rockwell Collins has been selected by Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) to deploy its ARINC vMUSE common use passenger processing solution (CUPPS) at 14 airports across South Korea.

Over the last five years, the South Korean aviation industry has registered a significant average annual rise of 6.7% in flight movements and 14.2% growth in passenger traffic.

With the launch of new airlines and air routes, the aviation industry has been attempting to expand the existing infrastructure of its airport facilities and use resources more efficiently.

To this end, KAC has currently expanded the use of ARINC vMUSE solution deployed at Gimpo, Kimhae and Jeju Airports for international flights, as well as at all its domestic airports.

The Rockwell Collins system helps expedite the passenger check-in process, optimises operating costs and enables the efficient use of airport resources.

Rockwell Collins Airport Systems vice-president Christopher Forrest said: “Over the past ten years, low-cost carriers (LCCs) have increasingly become an important part of South Korea’s aviation market.

"This solution enables those airlines to connect to their own reservation system from any check-in counter, improving efficiency and significantly reducing downtime."

“KAC initiated this project to assist new LCCs that want to fly into Korea’s domestic and international airports, but do not have dedicated check-in counters.

“This solution enables those airlines to connect to their own reservation system from any check-in counter, improving efficiency and significantly reducing downtime.”

In addition, all of the South Korean low-cost airlines have integrated Rockwell Collins’ ARINC GLOBALink solution to facilitate their aircraft flying throughout the region to seamlessly communicate and exchange data with ground crews and airline host systems.

Last year, KAC airports handled 62 million passengers travelling on nearly 380,000 domestic flights.
