Jordan is to build a new terminal at Queen Alia International Airport in order to double its annual passenger capacity.

The new terminal, which was designed by Foster and Partners and is due to open in 2012, will increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity from 5.5 million last year to 12 million.

Airport International Group, which signed a 25-year concession contract for the airport in 2007, will invest $675m in the project, which is expected to attract more than $1bn in foreign direct investment.

The project will be part-funded by the International Finance Corporation, which will give $120m to the project, according to ft.com.
