Qatar Airways has signed a contract with Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies, to buy 100 PurePower PW1100G-JM engines with a PureSolution maintenance service.

The airline will use the engines to power the fleet of 50 Airbus A320neo family aircraft it has ordered.

The PurePower engine uses an advanced gear system that allows the engine’s fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine, and delivers both fuel efficiency and environmental benefits.

Each of the jets powered by two PurePower PW1100G-JM engines will offer double-digit fuel savings, environmental emissions, engine noise and operating costs.

Deliveries of the engines are scheduled to start in 2015.
