UK-based air traffic management systems company Park Air Systems has secured an IP-based communications system contract from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

A subsidiary of US aerospace company Northrop Grumman, Park Air Systems will deliver ground-to-air communications systems across the country that will use the latest voiceover internet protocol (VIP) communications technology.

As per terms of the contract, Park Air Systems will supply over 500 pairs of air traffic control (ATC) transmitters and receivers, which will be integrated into the AAI IP network.

"With this significant order, we can maintain our long-standing presence in India’s rapidly growing civil aviation sector."

The system will consist of the Park Air T6 transmitter and receiver radios, Park Air S4 remote-control units, filters, multicouplers and antennas.

The new systems will be interconnected using the internationally agreed VIP protocol ED-137 and are due for delivery in spring 2015.

The contract was won in an internationally competed tender.

"We are pleased to be involved from the outset in AAI’s plans to roll out systems employing next-generation technologies, particularly Park Air’s advanced IP radio networks that are delivering dependable ATC communications across the Americas, Europe and Asia."

In January, Northrop Grumman secured a contract with Dubai Airports to deliver the analytics module of its airport real-time collaboration service to Dubai Air Navigation Services.
