The Nordic region will require 424 new passenger aircraft between 2011 and 2030 worth $38.6bn, according to an Airbus global market forecast.

The airlines in the region are expected to demand larger aircraft as they seek to increase their capacity, while simultaneously reducing their seat-mile costs and impact on the environment.

Airbus estimates about 59 twin-aisle aircraft deliveries over the next 20 years in the region, which will include A330s and A350 XWBs.

The estimate is based on an analysis of seven countries, where over 50 airlines currently operate 302 passenger aircraft.

The major areas addressed by the Airbus forecast, which have been showcased in the Nordic region, include future energy sources, air traffic management and new aircraft models.
