The new EchoStar XIX communication satellite was launched aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V 431 rocket into space from Space Launch Complex 41 in the US.

The launch was conducted on behalf of EchoStar unit Hughes Network Systems and facilitated by Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services.

Set to increase capacity of the existing HughesNet satellite internet service, EchoStar XIX will provide additional speed, data and other services for the US consumers and small businesses.

EchoStar XIX will also enable HughesNet Gen5, the next generation of HughesNet satellite internet service.

The company is currently responsible for the contracts, licensing, marketing, sales and mission management of Atlas rockets.

This marks ULA’s 12th launch of this year and the 115th successful launch since the formation of the company in December 2006.

ULA noted that the Atlas V 431 rocket used features a 4m extra extended payload fairing (XEPF) and three solid rocket boosters.

The Atlas booster used in the mission was powered by RD AMROSS RD-180 engine, and the Centaur upper stage was powered by Aerojet Rocketdyne RL10C engine.

ULA has so far launched more than 110 satellites into orbit.
