Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport (BWW), a public airport currently under development in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, has selected Queensland-based company Intersystems for its Flight Information Display System (FIDS).

As part of the deal, Intersystems will provide RapidFIDS and RapidADS systems to the new airport.

RapidFIDS would handle the FIDS at airport, including arrival and departure listing displays, check-in displays, gate displays and baggage carousel displays.

RapidADS would provide a dynamic airport advertising and content management system that would be integrated into the FIDS display network as well as dedicated displays.

"The airport is undoubtedly going to be a key infrastructure asset for Toowoomba."

This capability would transform the existing FIDS displays into a powerful advertising medium.

Intersystems CEO Bruce Allen said: "The Brisbane West Wellcamp project was important for us to secure because of its uniqueness in the Australian context and its proximity to our head office.

"The runway is already taking shape and we’re looking forward to delivering the project this year. With Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport’s first flights expected in October, the airport is undoubtedly going to be a key infrastructure asset for Toowoomba, Queensland and Australia as a whole."

According to BWW airport general manager Phil Gregory, construction of the airport was on track to be fully operational later this year.

Mr Gregory said: "The runway is almost complete and our passenger terminal is now well underway so we are looking forward to seeing the first flights appearing on our new FIDS displays in the near future."

BWW airport is being established with an investment of $615m as a project developed by the Wagner family.

Brisbane West Wellcamp is Australia’s first airport to be built in 50 years, and is also the first privately funded major airport in the country.
