Global aerospace engineering group MB Aerospace has acquired UK-based Centrax Turbine Components, which is a part of Centrax Group and manufactures turbine engine components for an undisclosed amount.

Centrax Turbine Components serves aero-engine and industrial gas turbine market.

It is the first acquisition for MB Aerospace after the recent investment support from its new private equity partner Blackstone. Centrax Turbine Components will then continue to operate at its existing site.

The acquisition has brought MB Aerospace’s workforce to 1,400 staff across the new location in Devon, in addition to existing facilities in Hartford, Connecticut, US; Detroit in Michigan, US; Rzeszów, Poland and across the rest of the UK.

"It will be rebranded MB Aerospace Newton Abbot and will focus on the automated machining, grinding, and robotic polishing of highly engineered rotating gas-path components."

Centrax Turbine Components has 430 employees. It will be rebranded MB Aerospace Newton Abbot and will focus on the automated machining, grinding, and robotic polishing of highly engineered rotating gas-path components.

The business has seven National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) approvals, including vapour phase aluminising, laser welding, heat treatment, and vacuum brazing.

MB Aerospace chief executive officer Craig Gallagher said: "The acquisition of Centrax Turbine Components is a perfect fit for the MB Aerospace group strategy, enhancing our customer diversification, addressing new capabilities of highly-engineered rotating components in the compressor and turbine sections of the engine, as well as bringing many special process technologies and capabilities to our operations in the UK.

Centrax currently serves customers that include Rolls-Royce, Snecma and Solar on several end platforms including Airbus A320 NEO, Boeing 737 and a series of Embraer regional jets on the commercial side along various military programmes such as Hercules 130J and the Osprey V22.

After selling the Turbine Components unit, the Centrax Group will retain its other unit, Gas Turbines Division, which manufactures and provides support to distributed power supply systems.
