German airline Lufthansa is planning to order 12 new aircraft from Airbus and Embraer, valued at approximately €1bn ($1.4bn).

The order consists of two Airbus A380s, one A330-300, four A320s and five Embraer 195 regional jets.

The new fuel-efficient aircraft will be delivered to the group in stages from 2012, and the order will be financed from the group’s cash reserves and external sources.
