Finland-based engineering service provider KONE has won a five-year contract extension to maintain equipment for people and goods movement at all terminals at Heathrow Airport.

The contract, which also includes the new Terminal 2 – Queen’s Terminal, will continue through to 2019.

KONE, which has been offering maintenance services to Heathrow since 1990, is responsible for maintaining over 1,000 elevator, escalator and autowalk units across all terminals.

By the end of the new agreement in 2019, KONE will have provided maintenance services to Heathrow for 29 years.

The company’s around the clock service will facilitate the flow of an estimated 72 million passengers each year.

KONE offers elevators, escalators, automatic building doors and integrated solutions, and it reported annual net sales of €6.9bn in 2013.
