KLM Cityhopper, a subsidiary of KLM in Europe, has exercised options for two more E175s with Embraer.

The deal was announced in March 2015 and included 17 firm orders, including 15 E175s and two E190s and 17 options for all models of E175. The deal still has options for 15 jets of the same model.

Embraer added the order to its last quarter backlog, which is valued at $88.8m at the company’s list price.

KLM Cityhopper will add two new planes to its existing fleet of 30 E190s. In December, the carrier received the delivery of two new E190s.

The first of two confirmed E175 will be delivered to KLM in March. After the delivery is completed, KLM Cityhopper’s E-Jets fleet will have 47 planes.

Embraer Commercial Aviation president Paulo Cesar Silva said: "For almost a decade KLM Cityhopper has operated E-Jets, becoming one of the largest customers of this aircraft family in the world, so we are extremely pleased that they have confirmed these new acquisitions, extending our great partnership.

"We wish even greater success to KLM Cityhopper as it continues to modernise its fleet in order to face the very competitive aviation environment in Europe."

"With the leather upholstery, this makes the Embraer extremely comfortable for our passengers."

In 2008, KLM began to replace its Fokker-built aircraft with E-Jets to improve the current network and to add new routes.

Since 2004, Embraer has received more than 1,700 orders for its E-Jets family and delivered over 1,200 E-Jets. Currently, 70 customers are operating E-Jets in 50 countries.

KLM president Pieter Elbers said: "We are pleased to confirm the options for two additional Embraer E175s.

"They will join the 30 E190s already flying with KLM Cityhopper.

"The E175 will be configured in a single-class layout with differentiated pitches to accommodate for European business class, economy comfort and economy class.

"With the leather upholstery, this makes the Embraer extremely comfortable for our passengers."

KLM Cityhopper managing director Boet Kreiken said: "The E190 cabin and seat appreciation by our passengers, the operational reliability, the advanced maintenance technology, the fuel consumption and CO2 footprint contributed to KLC success.

"Our operations will be reinforced with the E175 and its attractive economics starting to join KLC fleet in a couple of months."
