Japan has provided airport security equipment worth JPY1.94bn ($20m) for three major international airports in Pakistan.
The resources are intended for airports in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Takashi Kurai handed over the equipment to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority director general Air Marshal (Retd) Asim Suleiman at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad.
The equipment comprises explosive detection systems, vehicle scanners and cargo vehicle scanners, reported Brecorder.com.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) chief representative Yasuhiro Tojo was quoted by Associated Press of Pakistan as saying: "Balanced and stable regional development by supporting security enhancement is one of the priority areas of JICA rolling plan and country assistance policy for Pakistan."
Kurai said: "Security enhancement is indispensable for the successful socio-economic development of Pakistan and the Government of Japan remains committed to supporting Pakistan in this field".

Japan has been helping Pakistan to implement several security projects.
Earlier in July, Japan agreed to provide JPY200m for a face recognition system to be installed at the Karachi International Airport.
Security equipment is currently being installed at Karachi and Bin Qasim International Ports.
