Flag carrier Japan Airlines is conducting mobile robot demonstrative trials at Fukuoka Airport, with an aim to support carrying baggage transportation at the airport.

The trial is being conducted in the domestic terminal at Fukuoka Airport in Japan and will continue until 28 April.

Using Omron’s LD Mobile Robot, Japan Airlines will be able to transport baggage of arrival customers to the exit of the airport terminal.

Being a self-navigating autonomous intelligent vehicle (AIV), the Omron LD Mobile Robot is designed to move material in challenging environments, including confined passageways, as well as dynamic and crowded locations.

Unlike traditional autonomously guided vehicles (AGVs), the Omron Mobile Robot does not require any facility modifications, such as floor magnets or navigational beacons, saving users up to 15% in installation costs.
